ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

UMUDAGU CITY COLLEGE

Engr. Dr. Ohiri Confidence Chinemerem is a distinguished engineer, educationist, and community leader, born in 1978 in Umudagu Ihitte Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. He is happily married to Mrs. Ohiri Martha Onyinyechi, and they are blessed with four children.

An alumnus of the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Dr. Ohiri has dedicated his life to excellence in both the engineering profession and the advancement of quality education. His passion for community development and youth empowerment led to the establishment of Umudagu City College, a citadel of learning committed to academic excellence, moral discipline, and character building.

Through his visionary leadership, the school has continued to inspire generations of students, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and service to humanity. Dr. Ohiri remains deeply committed to creating opportunities for young people to excel and make meaningful contributions to society.


Umudagu City College Policy Handbook

Section: Regulations for Full-Time and Part-Time Teachers
Introduction

This policy provides guidelines for the engagement, conduct, and responsibilities of full-time and part-time teachers in Umudagu City College. The aim is to ensure consistency, professionalism, and quality teaching that supports the school’s vision of academic excellence.

Recruitment and Qualification

  • All full-time and part-time teachers must possess a minimum of NCE or B.Ed/B.Sc + PGDE.
  • Registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is strongly encouraged.
  • Credentials and references shall be verified before appointment.
  • Appointment and Contract

  • Engagement is on a termly or sessional contract basis.
  • A written contract shall specify subjects, teaching load, and remuneration.
  • Renewal of appointment depends on performance, punctuality, and school needs.
  • Workload and Time Commitment

  • A full-time teacher shall not exceed 24 periods per week unless specially approved.
  • A part-time teacher shall not exceed 15 periods per week unless specially approved.
  • Teachers must report at least 20 minutes before the first lesson.
  • Teachers must remain in school until all assigned duties for the day are completed.
  • Attendance and Punctuality

  • All teachers must sign the staff attendance register daily.
  • Absence without prior notice of at least 7 days will attract sanctions.
  • Two instances of unexcused absence may lead to suspension or termination.
  • Classroom Performance and Evaluation

  • Lesson notes/schemes of work must be submitted weekly to the Dean of Studies for approval.
  • Classroom teaching shall be observed periodically by the school management.
  • Student performance, discipline, and feedback will form part of teacher evaluation.
  • Professional Conduct

  • Teachers must maintain a high standard of discipline, dressing, and moral conduct.
  • Corporal punishment and abusive language are strictly prohibited.
  • Confidentiality of student records and school information must be upheld.
  • Remuneration

  • Payment shall be made according to the agreed contract terms.
  • Salary may be reduced for unapproved absences or negligence of duty.
  • Teachers are prohibited from collecting extra fees from students without school management approval.
  • Benefits

  • Full-time teachers: 20% oversight allowance of basic salary at the second month of every resumption.
  • Part-time teachers: 10% oversight allowance of basic salary at the second month of every resumption.
  • Interest-free Loan

  • Full-time teachers: Eligible for a loan less than ₦40,000 with two full-time guarantors.
    Payback: ₦10,000 monthly deduction.
    If the teacher defaults, guarantors take responsibility.
  • Part-time teachers: Eligible for a loan less than ₦30,000 with two full-time guarantors.
    Payback: ₦10,000 monthly deduction.
    If the teacher defaults, guarantors take responsibility.
  • Note: Guarantors are not eligible for a loan until the guaranteed loan is fully paid.
  • Commitment and Loyalty

  • Teachers must attend staff meetings, workshops, and school functions when required.
  • Part-time teachers must avoid conflict of interest (e.g., teaching in competing schools within the same locality without disclosure).
  • Capacity Building

  • Full-time and part-time teachers are encouraged to participate in in-house training and seminars.
  • The school may organize orientation or mentorship for new part-time teachers.
  • Exit and Renewal

  • A one-month notice is required before resignation.
  • All academic records (lesson notes, student assessments, scripts) must be handed over before exit.
  • Renewal of contract is at the discretion of the school management based on performance.
  • Disciplinary Measures

  • Sanctions include verbal warning, written query, suspension, or termination.
  • The school management reserves the right to terminate a contract if a teacher consistently violates policies.
  • Declaration

  • All full-time and part-time teachers shall sign a declaration to abide by this policy as a condition for their engagement.
